Lou Gehrig’s career tends to get lost in some bigger names that played for the Yankees over the years. I’m talking about names like Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle or even Roger Marris. Gehrig was certainly a great player, but didn’t have the big sensational seasons like Babe’s 60, Marris’ 61 or Dimaggio’s 56-game streak. Gehrig’s legacy was his 2,130 consecutive games played which seems to overshadow his actual performance. It is funny how consistency can be hard to appreciate.
